What is Range in Poker?

A player’s range is the combination of bluffs and value hands that he or she is likely to use. The range is generally discussed verbally, or in a forum post. Players often use shorthand to talk about ranges, such as “JJ+” for pocket Jacks and “JJ+” for pocket pairs. Alternatively, the “+” added after the starting hand refers to all the higher hands.

The basic equipment for the game of poker is a large table with several chairs. The game can involve as many as nine players. To play well, players must understand how to read their opponents, predict the odds, and keep a cool demeanor when bluffing. The ultimate goal is to win the other player’s chips.

The highest hand in a poker game is called the “high hand.” If a player has a pair of kings, it is considered a high hand. If there are two players who have the same high and low hands, the pot is split evenly among them. The player with the highest card in a suit is the “odds” player, and he will be awarded the odd chip.

Each betting round begins with a player making a bet. The other players must then either raise or fold their bets. If no one calls, the bet is a fold. If a player folds, he or she loses the chips in the pot.
