# Variations of Poker

The game of Poker has many variations. In some variations, players may hold a hand of five cards, known as a poker hand. These hands are valued inversely to their mathematical frequency. Players may also bet on which hand they believe is the best to win. If the other players do not match the bet, the player may bluff. While bluffing does not always result in a win, it can help a player win a game.

The betting intervals in poker games are called pot limits. During each betting round, one player is required to place a bet that equals the amount of money placed into the pot by the players before him. Once all the bets are placed, they are collected into a central pot. When all players are finished betting, the amount in the pot is the winner’s share. However, the pot limit is set so that each player can only bet a certain amount.

In a regular poker game, each player receives one card face-down and one card face-up. Then, a betting interval occurs after each round. After the fourth betting interval, the hole cards are revealed. The highest-ranking poker combination is revealed. The player with the highest ranking hand is called the first bettor. He must make a minimum bet in the first betting interval, and can check in later rounds. If he has a higher-ranking hand, he wins the pot.
